Tax laws can have strange consequences. An American professor of geology has a knack for writing best-selling cave-man thrillers and a gorgeous wife with expensive tastes, but he doesn't like giving Uncle Sam his due. So he moves to an emerald land that allows him to keep all his green. True, his new country manse needs a lot of work and is a bit odd, with its headache stone, overgrown chapel and a tiny walled-off room about which his neighbors seem strangely sensitive. Undaunted, he breaks through a creative funk to begin his blockbuster novel ... only to find that his new "life accountant" also wants his due.

A skilfully written comedy. An enjoyable tale with fast paced twists and turns. Couldn't put it down once the storyline developed. The devil is powerful and menacing but also somewhat inept making it possible for a good laugh at his expense.Product details

The Devil Room edition by Joe Fegan Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
There are a lot of thrillers about the Irish in America but only a few about Americans in Ireland, and even fewer good ones. In this transatlantic genre, TDR stands out as an exception, a rare gem. Joe Fegan makes a spectacular debut with this psychologically resonant thriller packed with biting wit, dark humor, quaint cultural tidbits, breathless suspense, and good dialogue. You will learn a great deal about the Irish and the Americans and laugh heartily (with them) at their own foibles, pratfalls, and their (false) pretensions to infallibility. The prose is lush, swift and incandescent. I felt engrossed in the story and transported at every turn of event.
It may sound like another worn cliché, but TDR is truly a page-turner, and a must-read, not only for the Irish and the Americans but for everyone!
The Devil's Room combines the irony of O'Henry and the macabre of Poe spun by Joe Fegan and his brilliant grasp of language.
A modern day ghost story, The Devil's Room tells the story of an American author, Trel Smart, who buys an estate in Ireland for the purpose of
leaving behind his unpaid tax debt to the IRS behind and his tattered past. What he doesn't realize is that the mansion on the estate
has become the home of The Lord of Darkness who has made a deal with previous owners to lease a small room in the house. Smart makes plans to demolish the room which leads to the opening of a Pandora's Box which threatens every aspect of his life.
The Devil's Room is a page turner of the highest degree. I finished the book in three extended sittings. Beyond just the genre of horror, Fegan illuminates the environment of the literary loving, hard drinking Irishmen and waxes philosophical on matters of overcoming the past and personal redemption. The Devil's Room has its own totally original voice and I highly recommend it.
I terrific romp. Well constructed. A lot of fun.
An intriguing and well written story. Kept you on your toes and not wanting to put it down. Loved the characters and storyline. Would highly recommend.
Very witty. Great use of language. A romp.
This TALL tail winds through some very interesting characters as well as the Irish countryside to lead to a complete and satisfied ending-- enjoyable
A simple effort to minimize the wrath of the IRS collides with a devilish Irish tale. The author keenly develops the plot with humor and unexpected twists, while drawing unwitting characters into the throes......We'll written and entertaining.
A skilfully written comedy. An enjoyable tale with fast paced twists and turns. Couldn't put it down once the storyline developed. The devil is powerful and menacing but also somewhat inept making it possible for a good laugh at his expense.
